I went to Montenegro recently and nothing went as planned. That would usually frustrate me, but this time it was a bit different.
When I got to Montenegro I thought I had it all planned out. I was going to stay one night in Kotor, two in Budva, and take a day trip to Perast. I was coming from Mostar and someone had recommended Montenegro Hostel 4U for my stay in Kotor, a beautiful city surrounded by mountains right on the coast of the country.
I arrived at Montenegro Hostel 4U without even having a reservation, and didn’t know what to expect. However, after the first five minutes there, I knew that my initial plan of only one night in Kotor wasn’t going to work for me anymore.
When I walked in, Boban and Mile, the two guys that manage the hostel, gave me a hug as if they had known me all their life. They picked my bags, gave me a map of the city, showed me around, and gave me a shot of alcohol. I then knew I was in the right place. I literally remember immediately going outside and sending a video to my friends saying “Guys, this is literally the best place ever!”
Montenegro Hostel 4U was paradise. It is perfectly located in front of the Kotor Bay, where you can go kayaking, swimming, and paddle boating. I’m serious; you walk out of the hostel and you’re two steps away from the water. The best thing? You can rent everything you need, from kayaks to bikes, right from the hostel.
Of course, you can’t go to Kotor without going to Old Town and climbing its iconic walls. Don’t worry, the hostel is less than 10 minutes away from Stari Grad (Old Town). A shopping mall with a supermarket, bars, and restaurants are also under 5 minutes walking from paradise (that’s how I’ll refer to it from now on).
I honestly can’t say enough good things about this place.
I’ve been to other hostels where there’s no life and no atmosphere. Montenegro Hostel4U is a party hostel, so if you don’t like to have fun and socialize this isn’t the place for you. However, it is the place for you if you want to have so much fun that you stay three nights instead of one and change all of your plans. Speaking from personal experience!
Beds for €9/night, drinking games and a free pub crawl every night, BBQ night every other night, private bathrooms in every room, computers that you can use, music all day, and an amazing staff that makes leaving so difficult are some of the things that makes Montenegro Hostel 4U the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. During my three days (sorry Budva, I guess I’ll have to come back another day!) I met so many cool people and just felt at home. That’s the best way to put it. I was at home, which is why leaving wasn’t easy. I guess that’s always a good problem to have.
If you go to Kotor, say hi to the guys for me, and be careful with the rajika!
